What Is A Blog and Why Do I Need One?

You may have been running your business for years or maybe you are just starting out and constantly hearing the word ‘blogs’, with no idea of what it actually means. The concept may be alien to you, even scary, but if you want to grow your business, you need to understand the benefits of using blogs.

It is no longer enough to just advertise your products or services in the paper or television; you’ll notice that the most successful companies in the world have a huge online presence. Those who don’t are often left in the shadows. People spend hours upon hours on the internet each day, so this is where your captive audience is.

To put it simply; blogs are used on websites as a means of providing information to visitors. They may be used to promote a particular product or service, or quite often individuals use blogs to share their views and experiences with others. When creating a blog, you can allow readers to comment on the content, which is a good way of finding out more about the needs of potential customers, without conducting market research.

Any business which wants to drive traffic to their website should have a blog. Why? Well, it is a good way for people to find your website via search engines.

In order for this to happen, you need to incorporate search engine optimisation into the content of your blog. This is the keywords people are likely to type into a search engine, so they can easily find you. For instance, if you are an artist in Glasgow, you want to ensure you mention ‘Glasgow artist’ somewhere in your blog.

Blogs are not just a way for traffic to reach you, but more importantly, it is a way for people to become interested in what you do, what you have to say and will keep them coming back for more.

It is important not to just write a blog for the sake of it though. You need to think about who your customers are and what they would be interested in hearing about. After all, if you don’t provide anything interesting, no one will want to return to your website.
